May 15-26, 2027: 12 days

Day 1 — Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia

Arrive in Denpasar, the capital of Bali, and transfer to the ship. Settle into your stateroom and set sail in the early evening. (D)

Day 2 — Badas, Sumbawa

Your first port of call is the Lesser Sunda island of Sumbawa, where small rice farms and villages are tucked amid volcanic ridges and jungle-edged beaches. Here, you’ll be welcomed into a village to spend time with the residents and learn firsthand about their way of life. Gain insight into age-old traditions such as buffalo racing and wedding rituals, experiencing the islanders' hospitality and reverence for their heritage. (B,L,D)

Day 3 — Komodo National Park

Komodo National Park unfurls over 700 square miles of splendor, encompassing craggy volcanic slopes and sapphire coves, a scattering of gem-like islands, extraordinary reefs, and a wealth of wildlife. Explore this World Heritage site on a range of excursions, and seek out its most famous creature, the Komodo dragon, the world’s largest lizard. Follow local guides on walks and hikes, observing these legendary creatures, which can grow up to 10 feet long and are native only to these islands. You’ll also have the opportunity to snorkel amid colorful marine life. (2B,2L,2D)

Days 4-5 — Flores and Alor

The islands of Flores and Alor offer postcard-perfect beaches and some of the best snorkeling and diving opportunities of the voyage. The marine biodiversity of these waters is remarkable, spanning from colorful reef fish and five sea turtle species to elusive species such as seahorses and dugongs. During two days anchored at these islands, you’ll also have a chance to spend time with the indigenous people, witnessing music and dance traditions in a remote mountain village where ikat weavers produce weavings for dowries and local ceremonies. (2B,2L,2D)

Day 6 — Barat Daya Islands

Arrive in the Barat Daya Islands, part of the Maluku archipelago, famously called the Spice Islands by European traders seeking nutmeg and cloves. Explore pristine beaches and visit fishing communities nestled amid palm trees, and take nature walks on the lookout for the area’s abundant birdlife—some 162 different species, a number of which are endemic, have been spotted here. Then set a course north, sailing across the Banda Sea this afternoon. (B,L,D)

Day 7 — Banda Neira

Delve into the history of the Maluku Islands during a full day on the tiny island of Banda Neira. These rugged volcanic outcroppings—and the treasured spices they produced—were fought over by the Portuguese, the British, and the Dutch East India Company, as well as Malay and Javanese traders. As you stroll the streets of the town, discover an eclectic mix of colonial architecture that illustrates those turbulent centuries, including the remnants of two Dutch fortresses. (B,L,D)

Days 8–9 — West Papua

Spend two memorable days snorkeling, swimming, diving, and Zodiac cruising along the gorgeous coast of West Papua, considered an epicenter of marine biodiversity. Surround yourself with an astonishing range of vibrant corals and fish species, and, above the water, discover stunning natural sites such as Kitikiti Waterfall and Triton Bay. (2B,2L,2D)

Day 10 — Kai Islands

Cap off your time in the Malukus with a relaxing day on the stunning Kai Islands, home to long stretches of pristine white-sand beaches and shoals. (B,L,D)

Day 11 — At Sea

As you cruise toward the northern coast of Australia, enjoy a leisurely day on the water. You might read a book in the lounge or indulge in a spa treatment. Watch for marine and birdlife on deck, and join your experts for engaging presentations and informal discussions. (B,L,D)

Day 12 — Darwin, Australia

Disembark in Darwin, and transfer to the airport for your return flight. (B)

Included meals are denoted as follows: Breakfast (B), Lunch (L), Reception (R), Dinner (D)

Today's excursion provides opportunities for you to sample some of the rich flavors of Balinese cuisine and also introduces you to a traditional Balinese village. Begin with a visit to a nearby family-run coffee plantation, where you will be invited to savor a variety of herbal teas and coffees, including the very special Kopi Luwak, made from beans that have passed through the digestive system of a civet (Luwak) before being roasted and brewed. After this unique tasting experience, continue to Batuan Village, famous for its distinctive art and for its traditional Balinese architecture. Here you will explore the 11th-century Pura Puseh temple, adorned with intricate stone carvings that depict ancient myths and legends, followed by a visit to a Balinese compound house. These traditional houses are actually a series of pavilions collected within a walled compound, each pavilion with a specific function, and organized according to the principles of Asta Kosala Kosali (similar to Feng Shui).

A specially curated 3-course lunch of Indonesian cuisine will be served at a local restaurant before you return to the hotel.  An afternoon at leisure is followed by a cocktail reception with your fellow travelers. Dinner is independent.

During your visit, you will see master artisans at work creating the intricately designed pieces for which the collective is known around the world, and you will have the opportunity to explore the Kapal Bamboo Boutique, the workshop's showroom. Following your visit to the workshop, you will enjoy a lunch of authentic Indonesian cuisine at a restaurant located in the Tanah Gajah resort, once the home of a wealthy art collector. The balance of the day is at leisure and dinner is independent.

Four Seasons Hotel Sydney

Day 2 — Sydney

After breakfast at the hotel, join your guide for a panoramic tour of some of Sydney's most iconic landmarks. Begin in the oldest part of the city, the Rocks precinct, where you will see Sydney's earliest colonial buildings as well as the historic waterfront theater district of Walsh Bay. Passing under Sydney Harbor Bridge, pause at Dawes Point for magnificent views of the Opera House just across a narrow inlet, and then continue your drive through the Royal Botanic Gardens to Mrs. Macquarie's Chair, a bench carved out of a rock ledge by convicts in 1810 so that the wife of the then-Governor could enjoy the splendid view. Your morning concludes with a private docent-led  tour of the Sydney Opera House, with exclusive access to areas not open to the general public.

Leaving the Opera House, travel to Bondi Beach for lunch at a local restaurant followed by time at leisure to stroll along the beach, enjoying the sun and sea of this world-famous surfers' hangout. Your full day of touring ends with a drive along the coastal road and through Sydney's posh eastern suburbs on your way back to the hotel. Dinner is independent.

Day 3 — Sydney | Blue Mountains | Sydney

After breakfast, meet your guide for a day devoted to nature and wildlife, as you travel into the Blue Mountains National Park, one of seven national parks that make up the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area. As you explore this wonderland of sandstone outcrops, deep ravines and hazy blue eucalypt forests, your guide will take you off the beaten track to remote lookout locations where the geography, flora and fauna of this magnificent region are on full display.

Leaving your hotel, the first stop of the day is at Sydney Zoo, home to over 4,000 animal species, including endangered species from around the world. But the focus of your visit today will be on Australia's endemic wildlife—the kangaroos and wallabies that hop freely around a beautiful open-range habitat. From the zoo, ascend into the mountains, stopping at outlooks over the Jamison Valley, until you reach remote Eaglehawk Lookout, with great views of the Three Sisters rock pillars, which according to Aboriginal legend were formed when a tribal shaman turned three women to stone after they fell in love with men from a rival tribe. Lunch will be served at Echoes Restaurant, perched high in the mountains with views over the entire length of the valley of rainforest below.

After lunch, visit Govett's Leap, one of the most famous lookouts in Australia, where a magnificent waterfall drops 600 feet to the base of the cliff and where the lookout provides sweeping views down the valley to the Grose Wilderness. On your return to the city, pause at the delightful Blue Mountains Botanic Gardens to admire its collection of cool-climate flora, including the rare, ancient Wollemi Pine, a species that has existed for more than 200 million years.

Tour Details

Activity Description

Expectations: This is an expedition-style cruise involving embarkation and disembarkation at piers for shore excursions as well as boarding tenders and other landing craft for some activities. Days can be full, with activities starting as early as 8:00 am and lasting four or more hours. Zodiacs are used for shore excursions and travelers need to be able to get in and out of the Zodiacs unassisted, which requires a large step over the side of the zodiac. This typically takes flexibility, agility, and balance. Also, passengers will need to be prepared to step from the Zodiac directly into ankle high water. Swimming and snorkeling may take place from zodiacs or beaches. However, passengers can choose to stay aboard ship the entire time and take in the views from the ship itself (the ship does get close to land, so there are views from the ship). (There is an elevator aboard the ship.)

Appropriate for: Travelers who are physically fit, lead active lives, are comfortable participating in long days of activities, and expect some physical exertion.
