Explore Italy’s southernmost regions—from striking Sicily to the “boot heel” of Apulia and the breathtaking Amalfi Coast—where each region reflects a unique history, architecture, and cuisine.

Highlights Include:

  • Sicily: Stay in lovely Taormina for four days, where your boutique hotel overlooks the Ionian Sea. Visit the ancient Greek Theater and 13th-century cathedral and enjoy an afternoon at leisure exploring the town or walking along the beach. Take an excursion to the Valley of the Temples, the archaeological zone of Agrigento, whose Doric temples date to Greek rule in the 5th century B.C. Venture to Mt. Etna, the world’s largest active volcano and enjoy lunch at a family-run farm amid acres of lemon trees, plus participate in a private cannoli-making lesson.
  • Apulia and Basilicata: Crossing to the mainland, travel to Apulia. In the town of Lecce, visit the cathedral and piazza with the town’s distinctive barocco leccese design (ornate sandstone carvings), and savor a wine tasting and dinner in the gardens of a palazzo. Discover Alberobello, famous for its 400 trulli (conical houses, designated a World Heritage site), and step inside an artisan’s workshop, a replica of an inhabited trulli home. In Basilicata’s Matera, walk amid ancient troglodyte churches and sassi cave houses (a World Heritage site), and stay in a renovated cave dwelling in the historic district.
  • Amalfi Coast: Spend four nights in the lovely town of Sorrento, overlooking the Bay of Naples. From here, embark on a breathtaking drive high above the glistening Tyrrhenian Sea along the winding Amalfi Coast. Devote most of a day to exploring fascinating Pompeii, the city that faced destruction in A.D. 79. Walk along the ancient streets, view the remains of homes and shops, and learn about the ongoing archaeological work. Take a hydrofoil to the storied isle of Capri, where you’ll tour the terraced Gardens of Augustus set over the azure sea. You’ll also take part in a hands-on Neapolitan cooking lesson.

*During this voyage, we will share the ship with other leading cultural and educational institutions, which will add to the excitement and energy of the experience.
