Itinerary

To see itinerary, please click on an option below.

Day 1 — Victoria, Mahé, Seychelles

Arrive in the Seychellois capital of Victoria, located on the coast of Mahé, the archipelago’s largest island. Embark the ship in the afternoon and set sail for the uninhabited islands of northern Seychelles. (D)

Day 2 — La Digue

Many islands of Seychelles are considered granitic, characterized by clusters of smooth granite boulders. Of these, the most iconic is La Digue, where rounded, pink-hued rocks rise out of the jungle and the white sands, towering over the idyllic landscape. Spend a full day exploring this gem of an island, from its rustic interior, where locals get around by oxcart or bicycle, to its world-renowned beach, l’Anse Source d’Argent. (B,L,D)

Day 3 — Aride Island/Curieuse Island

Your next port of call is Aride Island, a nature reserve of dramatic cliffs and gorgeous beaches that is a refuge of many seabird species, including terns, noddies, and Seychelles magpie-robins. Explore the wild coastline, keeping an eye out for sea turtles, tortoises, and unique reptiles.

After lunch on board, go ashore on Curieuse, just off the coast of the more well-known island of Praslin. Previously a leper colony, Curieuse now harbors incredible biodiversity, from its jungles where the World Heritage-listed coco-de-mer palm grows to the beaches where giant Aldabra tortoises roam free. Encounter the island’s unique flora and fauna on an afternoon excursion into the mangroves or enjoy a chance to snorkel or scuba dive (additional cost, prior certification required) the coral reefs off the coast. (B,L,D)

Day 4 — Rémire Island

Leave the granitic islands of the Mahé group behind and sail west towards the archipelago’s far-flung atolls and coral islands. Anchor at remote Rémire and enjoy time to discover its lush vegetation and seabirds and snorkel amid rich marine life. (B,L,D)

Day 5 — Saint François Atoll/At Sea

A wisp of an islet surrounded by turquoise seas, Saint François Atoll offers vast sand flats and pristine reefs. Make a morning stop here to relax on the beach, observe birds and sea turtles, or go snorkeling; then sail on toward the southernmost atoll in Seychelles. (B,L,D)

Day 6 — Farquhar Atoll

Spend a final day in Seychelles discovering the dunes and wildlife of Farquhar Atoll. Learn about the green and hawksbill sea turtles that nest here, and observe coconut crabs and colonies of breeding seabirds, including sooty and black-naped terns. You’ll have the opportunity to take a nature walk or to snorkel or dive (additional cost) the lagoon and fringing reefs. (B,L,D)

Days 7-8 — Antsiranana (Diego Suarez), Madagascar

Arrive in the city of Antsiranana, also known as Diego Suarez, set at the northern tip of Madagascar. The ship will anchor here overnight, allowing for two full days to explore the magnificent Emerald Sea and its karst islands. Having broken off from the African mainland some 150 million years ago, Madagascar’s flora and fauna evolved in isolation and the vast majority of its species are endemic to the island.  Enjoy time to explore the cliff-edged beaches that line the beautiful Emerald Bay. (B,L,D)

Day 9 — Nosy Hara

Awaken in Nosy Hara, a protected island off Madagascar’s northwestern coast. During a leisurely day here, go on walks to discover the island’s impressive biodiversity and its tsingy—craggy limestone columns that jut out along the coast. The coral reefs off shore attract hundreds of marine species, including five species of sea turtle, and you’ll have the opportunity to snorkel or dive (additional cost) them. (B,L,D)

Day 10 — Nosy Komba/Nosy Tanikely/Nosy Be

Spend the day discovering the gem-like islands of the Mozambique Channel, along Madagascar’s west coast. Stop first in Nosy Komba, a mountainous volcanic island covered in pristine tropical rainforests and known for its thriving black lemur population. Get a taste of local life in the island’s small villages, and venture into the forest to observe the amusing antics of the resident lemurs.  Continue to Nosy Tanikely, a tiny islet surrounded by rich marine habitats—all of which have been designated a national park. Enjoy a chance to swim and snorkel here, or go on a naturalist-led hike, viewing sea turtles and lemurs, to a hilltop lighthouse to take in sweeping views of the archipelago. Drop anchor in beautiful Nosy Be, and celebrate your Indian Ocean odyssey at dinner this evening. (B,L,D)

Day 11 — Nosy Be / Port Louis, Mauritius

After breakfast, disembark and transfer to the airport for an included charter flight to Port Louis, Mauritius to begin your return journey. (B)

Day 1 — Disembark | Mahé

After breakfast aboard, disembark and immerse yourself in the history, both natural and cultural, of this largest island in the Seychelles Archipelago. Travel first to the National Botanical Gardens, boasting over 280 plant species, from endemics to ornamentals. Begun as an agricultural research station in 1901, it has been transformed into a Public Park and is now among the most visited conservation sites in the country. The tour ends at the bustling local market, where you will have some time at leisure to browse the stalls. Leaving Victoria, drive into the island's interior to the hilltop vantage point of Mission Lodge, with perhaps the grandest vista on Mahe. The site of a 19th-century school for the children of freed slaves, it has been partially restored by the government and submitted for consideration as a UNESCO Heritage Site.

Continue to La Plaine St. André, a colonial-era sugar plantation that is home to the Takamaka Rum Distillery. A tour of the site includes an explanation of the entire production process from extracting the sugarcane juice through fermentation and distillation and ends with a tasting of the island's award-winning rum.

Peter Nicholls is a UK-based historian of mixed British and Seychellois Creole heritage whose work focuses on Indian Ocean Creole history, memory, and oceanic worldviews. His research merges archival study with Creole and Indian Ocean ways of knowing, and has reshaped understandings of the Seychelles’ early history, colonization, peopling and Creolization. His PhD at the University of Kent, Canterbury, supported by the UK Research Council, identified the Seychelles as a crucial mid-way recovery station for slave ships trafficking captives from Madagascar, the Comoros, East Africa and India to Mauritius, Réunion, the Cape and the Caribbean.

Peter is the author of Maroons of the Seychelles (2022) and The Door to the Coast of Africa (2018), and his work on maroons, inter-island movement, shipwrecks, traditional music and origins along the ship routes has become widely cited in Indian Ocean studies. He has worked as Historical Consultant on the documentary Listwar Sesel, lectured at the Universities of Kent, Seychelles and Mauritius, and contributed to numerous creative and community projects exploring oceanic heritage.

In 2025 he presented original research at UNESCO’s Routes of Enslaved Peoples Conference and now works on the Seychelles Origins Project, the Thames Estuary Sunken Slaveships Project and a Mauritius-based UNESCO initiative mapping significant sites of the Indian Ocean slave trade. His research interests have led him to explore archeological sites in the Indian Ocean, above and below water - including shipwrecks and the supposed base of pirate Olivier Levasseur, and his research into oceanic mythology, mermaids and saltwater cosmologies have led to numerous collaborations with artists and researchers across disciplines.

Dennis became enamored of wildlife as a youngster in his native Costa Rica. Living in Central America, it is not difficult to see how biology could become the favorite science for any nature enthusiast, as there are several thousand species in the region. He has a passion for bird sounds and has a collection of them — recently he worked on the creation of a DVD that mixes the piano with the sounds of the birds.

His experience and knowledge has taken him to lead groups in other countries in Central America, South America, Africa, New Zealand, South East Asia, Australia, Russia, Alaska, the Arctic, the Antarctic, and the Caribbean. When he is not lecturing, Dennis travels to remote areas in Central America explaining to young students how fragile the ecosystems are where they live. He also works on several projects to monitor endangered species in order to improve conservation efforts.

Tour Details

Activity Description

Expectations: This is an expedition-style cruise involving embarkation and disembarkation at piers for shore excursions as well as boarding tenders and other landing craft for some activities. Days can be full, with activities starting as early as 8:00 am and lasting four or more hours. Zodiacs and local boats are used for shore excursions and travelers need to be able to get in and out of these unassisted, which requires a large step over the side of the zodiac/local boat. This typically takes flexibility, agility, and balance. Also, passengers will need to be prepared to step from the Zodiac directly into ankle high water.  Swimming and snorkeling may take place from zodiacs or beaches. However, passengers can choose to stay aboard ship the entire time and take in the views from the ship itself (the ship does get close to land, so there are views from the ship). (There is an elevator aboard the ship.)

Appropriate for: Travelers who are physically fit, lead active lives, are comfortable participating in long days of activities both onboard and shore, and expect some physical exertion.
