Day 1 — Barcelona, Spain
Arrive in Barcelona, and transfer to the port to embark the ship. (D)
Day 2 — Eclipse Day: Palma de Mallorca, Mallorca, Balearic Islands
A relaxing morning of sailing brings you to Mallorca, the largest of the Balearic Islands. Here, limestone cliffs plunge into the sea and almond orchards and vineyards blanket the plains of the interior. Step into history on a tour of Palma de Mallorca, the cosmopolitan capital of the archipelago. Admire the Catalan Gothic architecture of the magnificent sandstone Palma Cathedral, constructed over 300 years beginning in 1230, and take in the view from the hilltop Bellver Castle. This evening, weather conditions permitting, experience the total solar eclipse from the comfort of the ship, witnessing the transformation of land and sea as totality is reached at 8:31 p.m. Soon after, watch the sunset and toast the eclipse at dinner tonight. (B,L,D)
*Please note that visibility of the eclipse depends on weather conditions and cannot be guaranteed.
Day 3 — Ciutadella, Menorca, Balearic Islands
The easternmost of Spain’s autonomous Balearic Islands, Menorca is edged in beautiful beaches and rocky coves. Drive across the island to Ciutadella, a city founded by the Carthaginians that served as the island's capital until 1772. A walking tour of the city's old town reveals a treasure trove of architectural styles, including a Gothic cathedral and well-preserved palaces built by British nobility in the 17th and 18th centuries. Alternatively, visit Subaida, a family-owned farm known for its handcrafted cheeses and fine wines, for a demonstration of the production process and a tasting of local cheeses. (B,L,D)
Day 4 — Alghero, Sardinia, Italy
Perched on clifftops above the sea, the fishing port of Alghero on Sardinia's northern coast is a lovely fishing town known as “Barcelonetta” for its strong Catalan legacy dating back to the Middle Ages. Meander along its picturesque cobblestoned streets and fortifications, and visit the 14th-century Church of San Francesco and the Cattedrale di Santa Maria. Then board a coach for a panoramic drive along the coast to Capo Caccia, where a craggy limestone headland juts into the sea. Along the way, pass through landscapes dotted with nuraghi, the prehistoric monumental towers that are found all over the island. (B,L,D)
Day 5 — Calvi, Corsica, France
Dock in the port of L'Ile-Rousse on Corsica’s northern coast and journey to Calvi, once a Genoese stronghold and now a picturesque seaside town. On a guided walking tour, explore the 15th-century Citadel, which offers views of the city and the sea beyond, as well as the Place d'Armes and the Cathedral Saint Jean Baptiste. Step into the house of Christopher Columbus, who is believed to have been born in Calvi. Then make your way to the lower town and the Quay Landry for a stroll along the café-lined promenade and the lively marina. (B,L,D)
Day 6 — Portoferraio, Elba, Italy
Trace European history from the Renaissance to Napoleon on the rugged island of Elba, only six miles off the Tuscan coast. Dock in Portoferraio and visit Villa San Martino, Napolean's summer residence during his brief exile on the island. Continue to the former Spanish port of Porto Azzurro and visit a traditional wine farm to sample local wines, cheeses, and charcuteries. Alternatively, take a beautiful drive across Elba to see the exotic species cultivated at the Ottone Botanical Garden. (B,L,D)
Day 7 — Porto Ercole
Your first port of call on mainland Italy is the Porto Ercole, a harbor town on the small peninsula of Argentario that is nestled between the lush vegetation of Monte Argentario and the azure Tyrrhenian Sea. Set off on foot to explore, choosing from a variety of walking tours and trails that lead to viewpoints or fortifications built by the Spanish to protect against the Ottomans. (B,L,D)
Day 8 — Portofino
Cruise past the elegant resort towns that dot the rugged shores of the Italian Riviera. Anchor in the picturesque fishing village of Portofino, and take a walking tour of its winding lanes, lined with houses painted in warm hues. Then enjoy time at leisure to explore this magical spot on your own. (B)

Treasures of Catalonia: Barcelona and Montserrat — 3 days, 2 nights
August 9–11, 2026
Catalonia enjoys one of the richest cultural heritages in Spain. This specially designed program introduces you to two fascinating elements of that heritage: the 12th-century Benedictine monastery on Montserrat and the modernist marvels of Barcelona.
Day 1 — Barcelona, Spain
Arrive in Barcelona, where you will be met and transferred to the Almanac Barcelona, a stylish luxury hotel ideally located just steps from the elegant Passeig de Gràcia. Check-in time is 3:00 PM. A local representative will be present at the hospitality desk in the afternoon to welcome you and offer suggestions for dining and independent exploration.
This evening, gather with your fellow travelers for a cocktail reception at the hotel to kick off your journey. Dinner is on your own.
Day 2 — Barcelona | Montserrat
After breakfast, set out on a full-day excursion to the astonishing Monastery of Montserrat. A scenic drive north of Barcelona brings you to the charming town of Monistrol de Montserrat, where you’ll board a cog railway for the dramatic climb up the serrated limestone mountains to the monastery perched near the summit.
Your guided visit includes the ornate basilica, home to the beloved wooden statue of the Virgin that has drawn pilgrims since the 12th century, as well as the Montserrat Museum, which houses works by Monet, Picasso, Casas, and Rusiñol.
Enjoy a traditional Catalan lunch at Abat Cisneros Restaurant, once the monastery’s stables, followed by free time to explore this spiritual site on your own. Return to Barcelona in the afternoon, where the rest of the day is at leisure.
Day 3 — Barcelona | Embark
After breakfast and check-out, embark on a guided exploration of Barcelona’s architectural gems and iconic views. Begin with a pleasant stroll from your hotel to the vibrant Passeig de Gràcia, where you’ll step into the dazzling world of Modernisme. Enjoy close-up views of Casa Batlló, Gaudí’s fantastical masterpiece, followed by an introduction to the neighboring jewels of the Manzana de la Discordia, where Casa Amatller and Casa Lleó i Morera stand in striking contrast.
After a brief return to the hotel for a comfort stop, you’ll continue to La Sagrada Família, Gaudí’s most famous work. A full interior visit reveals the awe-inspiring columns, luminous stained glass, and soaring vaults of this unfinished symphony — a truly unforgettable experience.
Next, a short drive brings you to Estació de França, where a leisurely walk leads to Brisa Restaurant for a relaxed lunch featuring local Catalan flavors. The afternoon concludes with a panoramic drive across Montjuïc Hill, offering sweeping views of the harbor and city skyline — the perfect final glimpse of Barcelona before transferring to the port to embark your ship in the late afternoon.

Linda Gosner is an Assistant Professor of Classical Archaeology at Texas Tech University. She studies Iron Age and Roman archaeology and history with a particular focus on the Iberian Peninsula, Italy, and western Mediterranean islands. Her current research examines the impact of Roman imperialism on technology, craft production, labor practices, and everyday life in the Roman provinces of the western Mediterranean world. Her work engages with broad questions about human-environment interaction, community and identity, labor history, mobility, and culture contact. Recent publications include the co-edited volume Local Responses to Mobility and Connectivity in the Ancient West-Central Mediterranean (Equinox Press) and journal articles for such venues as the European Journal of Archaeology, the Journal of Field Archaeology, and Al-Masāq: Journal of the Medieval Mediterranean. An active field archaeologist, Linda has worked in the Balearic Islands, Spain, Portugal, Sardinia, Italy, Egypt, Jordan, and Turkey. She currently works in Sardinia, co-directing the Sinis Archaeological Project and serving as a collaborator with the Progetto S’Urachi (Brown University). The former is a landscape survey that explores the successive impacts of the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, and Romans on resource extraction and settlement patterns along the island’s west-central coast. The latter is an excavation of the Nuraghe S’Urachi, a large megalithic monument and adjacent settlement dated from the Bronze Age to the Roman period. Linda has been a recipient of fellowships from the Institute for Advanced Study (Princeton), the American Council of Learned Societies, the Fulbright Foundation, and the Loeb Classical Library Foundation. Prior to joining Texas Tech, Linda was a postdoctoral fellow with the Michigan Society of Fellows (University of Michigan, Ann Arbor) and received her PhD from the Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World at Brown University.
