The following itinerary is a sampling of the experiences that we offer on a Tailor-Made Journey. Working with our country specialists, you can customize your itinerary to fit your timing, your budget, and your interests, including accommodations, activities, and the places you visit.

Day 1 — Arrive Dubrovnik

Upon arrival in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Dubrovnik, you’ll be greeted by a private driver and escorted to your elegant accommodations. Enjoy a leisurely afternoon to settle in and begin your own discovery of this storied city—perhaps with a stroll along the waterfront or a quiet moment in one of its charming squares. (B)

Day 2 — Dubrovnik

This morning, meet your expert local guide for a private walking tour through Dubrovnik’s Old Town. Traverse its marble-paved streets and admire the Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architecture that reflects centuries of maritime history. Later, ascend Mount Srđ by cable car for sweeping views of the Adriatic and the red-roofed city below. (B)

Day 3 — Dubrovnik

Experience Dubrovnik from a new perspective as you paddle along its dramatic coastline with a private kayaking guide. Glide past the city walls and hidden coves, learning about the region’s natural and historical significance. The afternoon is yours to explore a museum of your choice or unwind poolside at your hotel. (B)

Day 4 — Ferry to Hvar Island

Depart Dubrovnik aboard a scenic public ferry to the sun-drenched island of Hvar. Upon arrival, check into your hotel in Hvar Town, known for its Venetian architecture and vibrant harbor. Spend the afternoon exploring the promenade or relaxing on one of the island’s pristine beaches. (B)

Day 5 — Hvar Coastal Hike

Join a local guide for a gentle hike along Hvar’s southern coast, passing lavender fields and secluded bays. Pause for a refreshing swim before arriving in the village of Malo Grablje, where you’ll enjoy a traditional Dalmatian meal with panoramic views of the countryside. (B)

Day 6 — Hvar

Today is yours to explore Hvar at your own pace. Smithsonian Journeys recommendations include kayaking to nearby islets, visiting the hilltop fortress, or simply soaking in the Mediterranean ambiance from a café terrace. (B)

Day 7 — Private Cruise to Split via the Pakleni Islands

Embark on a private boat journey to Split, navigating through the idyllic Pakleni Islands. Swim and snorkel in tranquil bays, and enjoy the warm hospitality of your captain as you cruise toward the mainland. Arrive in Split and settle into your hotel in the heart of the city. (B)

Day 8 — Krka National Park and Visovac Island

Travel with your guide to Krka National Park, a lush landscape of waterfalls and lakes. Walk scenic trails and board a boat to Visovac Island, home to a 15th-century Franciscan monastery. Learn about the monastic traditions and the island’s role in Croatian cultural heritage. (B)

Day 9 — Omiš and Split

Venture to the historic town of Omiš, once a pirate stronghold nestled between mountains and sea. Hike to the Starigrad Fortress for commanding views, then experience the thrill of zip-lining across the Cetina River canyon—an exhilarating finale to your journey.  (B)

Day 10 — Depart Split

After breakfast, your private driver will transfer you to the airport for your onward flight, concluding your enriching exploration of Croatia’s coastal wonders. (B)
