Dr. Adam M. Thomas is an art historian and curator specializing in American and European painting, sculpture, and photography from the 18th century to the present. He is the curator of twenty art museum exhibitions, most recently at the Resnick Center for Herbert Bayer Studies in Aspen, Colorado. From 2015 to 2024, Adam was the curator of American art at the Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State, where he also taught undergraduate and graduate courses in the art history department. His scholarship on art is alive to literary, philosophical, and scientific histories, and he has published on the Swiss-born artists Carol Bove and Ugo Rondinone in Where Art Meets Nature: The Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden (2024). A forthcoming project is devoted to the sculpture of the Swiss polymath Max Bill. He has delivered academic papers far and wide, including at the Art Institute of Chicago, the University of Virginia, Wellesley College, and the American Academy in Rome. He currently serves as an exhibition reviews editor for the open-access journal Panorama.
