Overview

Yosemite National Park (est. 1890) is home to some of the most magnificent scenery in the American West. John Muir, a father of the conservation movement, found his calling here. During leisurely hikes explore the major sites, beauty, and history of this World Heritage site. 2018 Itinerary

Day 1 — Fresno, California to Yosemite National Park

This morning travel to the south entrance of Yosemite National Park. The park is an unspoiled treasure of some of the most striking scenery in the world. Gather this evening for a welcome reception and opening remarks. ​(R,D)

Day 2 — Mariposa Sequoia Grove

This morning we will explore Mariposa Sequoia Grove. This afternoon, explore the Pioneer Yosemite History Center and learn about the rich history of the park and key features of the Wawona Hotel, built in 1879. Afterward, enjoy a group dinner then relax in the evening with time for stargazing. (B,L,D)

Day 3 — Yosemite Valley

Venture into the heart of Yosemite Valley for a look at classic features of El Capitan, Half Dome, Sentinel Peak and more. Enjoy some amazing hikes today that could include Glacier Point, Bridalveil Falls and Lower Yosemite Falls. As you explore the valley, learn more about the legacy of renowned naturalist John Muir and retrace some of his favorite locations and read excerpts from his journals. (B,L,D)

Day 4 — Yosemite’s High Country

Spend today visiting Yosemite’s High Country. Hike through the Hetch Hetchy area, a glacial valley within the park that sees far fewer visitors than Yosemite Valley. A controversial dam was built there in 1925, raising the ultimately futile objections of John Muir and others from the budding conservation movement. Or, weather permitting, enjoy a drive over Tioga Pass Road, with hiking and walking opportunities and incredible views of the Valley below. Highlights could include Mono Lake, Tuolumne Meadows, Tenaya Lake, and Olmsted Point, where you can see the opposite side of Half Dome that is visible from Glacier Point. This evening, you’ll return to the lodge to enjoy dinner at the Mountain Room Restaurant, with striking views of Yosemite Falls.

Day 5 — Yosemite Valley

Today enjoy an assortment of ways to explore Yosemite Valley. Spend today visiting Yosemite’s High Country. Enjoy a drive over Tioga Pass Road, with hiking and walking opportunities and incredible views of the Valley below. Highlights could include Mono Lake, Tuolumne Meadows, Tenaya Lake, and Olmsted Point, where you can see the opposite side of Half Dome that is visible from Glacier Point. Later this afternoon, enjoy a privately guided tour of the historic Ahwahnee Hotel before a festive farewell dinner in its historic dining room. (B,L,D)

Day 6 — Return to Fresno / Depart

Check out of your hotel and depart the park for Fresno/Yosemite International Airport. The drive from Yosemite Valley to the airport will take approximately three hours. (Please ensure your flights are planned to depart after 1:00 P.M.) (B)

Day 1 — Fresno, California to Kings Canyon National Park

This morning travel about 1.5 hours from Fresno to Kings Canyon National Park. The park is an unspoiled treasure of some of the most striking scenery in the world. During a leisurely hike, explore the beauty of towering giant sequoia trees, soaring mountain peaks, and cascading creeks.

Gather this evening for a welcome reception and opening remarks. Your stay this evening is at the John Muir Lodge, located in Grant Grove Village only a few minutes from the historic Grant Grove and famous General Grant Tree, a soaring 267-foot-tall sequoia! (R,D)

Day 2 — Kings Canyon National Park to Yosemite National Park

This morning bid goodbye to Kings Canyon National Park and make your way to the south entrance of Yosemite National Park. Towering cliffs, expansive vistas, abundant waterfalls, and important wildlife habitat were all preserved by John Muir’s legacy.

This afternoon, explore the Pioneer Yosemite History Center and learn about the rich history of the park and key features of the Wawona Hotel, built in 1879. Afterwards, enjoy a group dinner then relax in the evening with time for stargazing. (B,L,D)

Day 3 — Wawona Hotel to Yosemite Valley

Venture into the heart of Yosemite Valley for a look at classic features of El CapitanHalf DomeSentinel Peak, and more. Enjoy amazing hikes today that could include Glacier Point, Sentinel Dome, or the Pohono Trail. As you explore the valley, learn more about the legacy of renowned naturalist John Muir and trace some of his favorite locations and read excerpts from his journals. (B,L,D)

Day 4 — Yosemite Valley

Take a morning nature walk to catch a glimpse of the wildlife in Yosemite. Learn from a park ranger about the challenges of preserving the majestic character of Yosemite while working to reduce congestion, construction, and further development within the park.

This afternoon, visit the Valley Visitor CenterYosemite Museum, and Ansel Adams Gallery before checking into the Majestic Yosemite Hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 5 — Yosemite’s High Country and Mono Lake

Spend today visiting Yosemite’s High Country. Enjoy a drive over Tioga Pass Road, with hiking and walking opportunities and incredible views of the Valley below.
