The hotel is located just four miles from the Park's south entrance and most of the hotel's 104 guestrooms open onto spacious verandas. Housed in six buildings, guest rooms are simply decorated and furnished in period pieces and antiques. All rooms offer daily maid service and Smithsonian guests will be in rooms with private baths. There are no telephones or televisions in the rooms. There is a small gift shop for personal items. Meals will be served in the main dining room and there is drink service in the lobby as well as nightly piano music.

Located just steps from the spectacular Yosemite Falls, Yosemite Valley Lodge offers accommodations spread out over several lodge buildings with small patios or balconies for taking in the spectacular sites. All rooms are simply decorated with comfortable beds, a private bathroom, dressing area, telephone and television with limited programming. Participants will have meals in the Mountain Room Restaurant. There is also a lounge where alcoholic beverages are served (Mountain Room Lounge). The Coffee Corner has a variety of hot and cold coffees and tea drinks, bagels and pastries and hand-dipped ice cream. There is a computer center to check e-mail for a small charge.
