Walks and Hikes
This is an easy to moderate program incorporating short walks of up to two miles, some on dusty and rocky trails.
It should be stressed that most of the trip takes place at high elevations. Yellowstone is located at 6,000 to 8,000 feet above sea level. Elevation gains during the walks are within 200-300 feet. The high altitudes might make the walks more difficult than you might expect, particularly for those accustomed to sea level walking. Many people are affected with shortness of breath, dehydration, and sleeplessness due to the altitude. Walks and hikes will be taken at an easy to moderate pace suitable for study. For the most part, the walks will be along established trails and boardwalks. Hiking boots or trail shoes with a good traction highly recommended.
