India enchants, from the ethereal beauty of the Taj Mahal to the lively streets of Jodhpur’s “blue city.” While there is much to see throughout the country, Rajasthan is full of historic gems and vibrant cultures. Visit the sites of Delhi and the incomparable Taj Mahal, and then spend time immersed in the magic of Rajasthan. Explore fabled cities from Jaipur to Udaipur, and step into world-renowned palaces, fortresses, and temples. In between your city stays, settle into family-owned palaces in Rajasthan’s countryside and get acquainted with local cultures and the rhythms of rural life.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1 - Delhi

Arrive in Delhi, where you’re met by our representative and taken to your hotel by private transfer. The rest of the day is at leisure. If you’d like to start exploring, consider taking a walk through Lodi Gardens, an expansive, leafy oasis scattered with 15th-century Mughal tombs. 

Days 2 - Delhi

Set out with your private guide today on a tour of Delhi that highlights the differences between the two sides of the city. See the Jama Masjid, the largest Friday mosque in India, and venture into the heart of Old Delhi to experience its sights and sounds. Then see the imperial buildings set along the wide boulevards of Lutyens' New Delhi—named for British architect Edwin Lutyens—including India Gate and the Rashtrapati Bhawan, the residence of India’s presidents. Day 3 - Agra

Leave Delhi early this morning to travel to Agra, home of the Taj Mahal, built by emperor Shah Jahan in the 1600s in honor of his deceased wife. You can travel to Agra by road with your private driver—about a three-hour ride—or by train. The rail journey can take longer, but offers an authentic and memorable experience. If you choose to travel by rail, you'll be escorted to the train and met at the station in Agra by our representative. In the afternoon, take a guided walk around Agra. Visit the the Red Fort, an impressive 15th-century Mughal palace complex where Shah Jahan was imprisoned shortly after his beloved Taj Mahal was completed. (B)

Day 4 - Agra and Jaipur

Rise early to experience the Taj Mahal at sunrise on a private guided tour. Enjoy time to wander among the surrounding gardens, taking in different perspectives of this legendary site, and see the adjacent sandstone mosque. After breakfast, drive from Agra to Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan. Stop en route to visit Fatehpur Sikri, the beautiful and enigmatic capital of Emperor Akbar, which was abandoned rather suddenly when water supplies dried up. The journey takes five hours, and your guide can suggest places to stop and visit along the way. (B)

Day 5 - Jaipur

Spend a full day discovering the enchanting “pink city” of Jaipur with your private guide and driver. Venture into the magnificent Amber Palace, the capital of the Kachwaha Rajputs until 1727. Visit the museum within the City Palace, and admire the intricate facade of The Palace of the Winds, laced with openings so that women inside could discreetly watch the happenings on the street. Then see fascinating 17th-century astronomical instruments at the Jantar Mantar Observatory. (B)

Day 6 - Barli

Journey deeper into Rajasthan today, traveling to the rural village of Barli with your private driver. You’ll make sightseeing stops along the way, and take in the changing scenery as you head west. Arrive in the afternoon and check in to your hotel—a stunning fortress-palace owned by the same Rajput families for centuries. Enjoy a swim in the pool and time to explore the grounds of this spectacular property. (B)

Day 7 - Barli

You’ll have a full day free to discover Fort Barli and its surroundings on a variety of excursions organized by the staff. Go birding on a 4-wheel-drive excursion, tour the historic fort, indulge in a spa treatment or climb into a bullock cart to visit nearby villages. (B)

Day 8 - Jodhpur

Continue with your driver to Jodhpur, known as the “blue city” for its azure-hued old city. Upon arrival, enjoy a leisurely afternoon. We recommend heading to your hotel’s rooftop terrace, where you can soak up the sounds of the city and take in views of its fort while sipping a drink. (B)

Day 9 - Jodhpur

Meet your guide for a private tour of this intriguing city. Visit the imposing Mehrangarh Fort, perched high on a precipice overlooking the city. Then delve into the the bustling streets of the historic city to see the famed blue houses. This afternoon, you’ll have time to explore the colorful bazaars located around the city’s clock tower. (B)

Day 10 - Chanoud

Head three hours south with your driver to the oasis of Chanoud. Your home here is a family-owned, 300-year-old palace. Take the afternoon to discover the elegant palace and meet your welcoming hosts, who will help you plan activities during your stay. (B)

Day 11 - Chanoud

Set off to discover this unique corner of India with guides from the hotel. Visit nearby villages to learn about everyday rural life and meet with Rabari people, a pastoralist ethnic group known for their vibrant clothing and jewelry. End the day enjoying a drink while watching the sunset across the salt lake. (B)

Day 12 - Udaipur

Travel south today, stopping at Kumbhalgarh, an important 15th-century fortress with ramparts that stretch for miles. In Ranakpur, visit the exquisite Chaumukha Mandir, a Jain temple complex dating back centuries that is made from intricately carved white marble. Arrive in Udaipur, the stunning “city of lakes,” and settle into your hotel. (B)

Day 13 - Udaipur

Poised between the mountains and Lake Pichola, Udaipur is a romantic city of palaces, elegant homes, and picturesque lanes. Join your guide for a private tour, discovering many of the highlights of the city, including the vast City Palace. After time at leisure, set sail on Lake Pichola on a sunset cruise, and take in views of the iconic Lake Palace, surrounded by shimmering water. (B)

Day 14 - Depart for home

Fly to Delhi or Mumbai to catch your flight home. (B)
