Overview

Level 2: Moderate

Expectations: Long touring days with many full-day motor coach excursions. Standing and walking for long periods of time during city tours, museum visits, and/or outdoor activities. Walking over sometimes difficult terrain (e.g. cobblestones, city hills, stairs without handrails, the absence of elevators, climbing aboard trains with high steps); some longer walks to get to city centers where coaches are prohibited. Possible exposure to higher altitudes. River cruises may offer a choice of excursions with varying activity expectations.  (Typical travel opportunities: Most Cultural Stays, River Cruises, some Land Journeys, U.S. Train Tours)  

Appropriate for: Travelers who are physically fit and comfortable with long days of touring (both walking tours and coach time). 

Sample Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrive in Porto

Upon arrival at the airport in Porto, you will be met by a representative and escorted to your hotel. The afternoon is yours to spend at your leisure exploring the city. (B)

Day 2 – Porto

Get a proper introduction to Porto today as you embark on a city tour on foot and by car. In the afternoon, enjoy a port tasting at a local port cave across the river. (B,D)

Day 3 – Douro Valley

Spend the day north of Porto in the Douro Valley, enjoying lunch on your own and wine tastings in Europe's oldest demarcated wine region before returning to Porto. (B)

Day 4 – Travel to Lisbon

Today your driver will take you to the train station where you'll travel south to Lisbon. Relax at your hotel before heading out for a special dinner accompanied by traditional Portuguese fado music. (B,D)

Day 5 – Lisbon

Enjoy a tour of the major highlights of Lisbon today, along the way enjoying tastings of local snacks and the typical cherry liqueur, giginha. (B,L)

Day 6 – Sintra

Head west of Lisbon today with your guide and driver to explore nearby Sintra and its whimsical, almost fairytale architecture. (B)​

Day 7 – Évora

Journey east of Lisbon today to Évora in the Alentejo region, stopping along the way for a tasting at a local winery.(B,L)

Day 8 – Évora

Take a guided walking tour of Évora, visiting its well-preserved Roman ruins and fascinating churches.(B)

Day 9 – Depart for U.S

Your driver will take you back to Lisbon today to catch your flight back home.
