Grand Hotel Sitea
Turin, Italy
The family-owned Sitea was built in the mid-1900s near the Piazza Castello in Turin’s city center, and has been declared a historic site of Italy. The 120 rooms are individually furnished with classic elegance and offer marble-clad bathrooms, modern amenities, and ample space in which to unwind. A buffet breakfast can be enjoyed indoors or outside in the garden, and the hotel’s bar serves cocktails in a classically Italian setting. An onsite bistro serves light regionally inspired fare, but the hotel’s pièce de resistance is the intimate Carignano, a Michelin-starred fine-dining restaurant.
Villa Beccaris
Monforte D’Alba, Italy
Located on top of a hill in Monforte D’Alba, the 18th-century Villa Beccaris offers views of the Alps, the Barolo hills, and undulating vineyards from most of its guest rooms. Mature trees and gardens offer shady nooks and the terracotta-tiled roofs and ochre walls are classically Italian.
The villa resembles an elegantly appointed private residence, with a relaxing lounge, bar, and enoteca, and beautifully styled rooms featuring period furniture and artwork as well as modern conveniences. The highlight of the property is the Limonaia, a wrought-iron, window-wrapped pavillion with gorgeous views where breakfast and cocktails are served in season. The hotel features a swimming pool and parklands, and dining options are just a five-minute walk away.
Collège Hotel
Lyon, France
Set in an art deco building in the heart of Vieux Lyon, the Collège Hotel is a boutique hotel with character. A playful and contemporary school theme stretches from the front desk through to the rooms, with antique school chairs, vintage desks, and lockers serving instead of typical hotel furnishings. Rooms are small but bright and stylish, with lovely views of the old quarter. Other amenities include a school-style cantine where a generaous breakfast buffet is served, a library, and large, inviting terrace with sweeping city views.
