Located on Granada’s central Gran Vía boulevard, the Hotel Palacio de Santa Paula takes its name from the convent at its heart. The building retains much of its original character, with a cobblestoned courtyard and fountain and many Moorish details. The 74 elegant rooms are housed around the cloisters, in an old Moorish house and in a newer block overlooking the street. The main restaurant, El Claustro, located off the central courtyard, serves traditional Spanish and Andalusian fare. There’s also a small bar, which opens onto the courtyard in the summer. Guests can also take advantage of the hotel’s small gym, sauna and Turkish bath.

Set on the Málaga waterfront, the Gran Hotel Miramar opened in 1926 and served as a hotel, hospital, and the Palace of Justice before reopening in 2016 as a luxury hotel. The property pays homage to its original design with a grand marble lobby hung with glittering chandeliers and an elaborate neo-Moorish internal courtyard. Decorated in Arab, Mediterranean or Modernist style, the 190 rooms are all stylishly furnished, and many offer sea views. Gardens lead down to the beach and feature a large semi-heated pool, surrounded by loungers and tinkling fountains. The hotel’s expansive spa boasts treatment rooms, a hammam and a Jacuzzi. Dining and entertainment options include a buffet breakfast served overlooking the gardens, a fine-dining restaurant and terrace, as well as a rooftop bar with a resident DJ on weekends.
