Janice Simon
Janice Simon is Professor of Art History at the University of Georgia, Lamar School of Art, where her teaching focus is on the art of the United States from colonial times through World War II. She received her M.A and Ph.D.with distinction in Art History from the University of Michigan. Professor Simon has taught a wide variety of subjects related to American art on both the undergraduate and graduate levels including American landscape painting. She has been honored with numerous teaching awards including the University of Georgia’s most prestigious distinction, the Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professorship. She has contributed to many art publications and periodicals including the recent exhibition catalog for the National Gallery of Art, American Pre-Raphaelites: Radical Realists; as guest curator for the Mattatuck Museum, Images of Contentment: John Frederick Kensett and the Connecticut Shore; and as essay contributor for the Georgia Museum of Art's Icon of Modernism: Representing the Brooklyn Bridge 1883-1950; Crossroads in American Impressionism at the Turn of the Century; Classical Ground: Mid-Nineteenth Century American Painters and the Italian Encounter; and One Hundred American Paintings.
