Sample Itinerary
Day 1 — Dublin, Ireland
Arrive in Dublin and meet your private driver for the transfer to your hotel. After time to get settled, head to Kilmainham Gaol for a fascinating perspective on Ireland’s long struggle for independence. As you explore the prison cells and exercise grounds on a shared guided tour, learn about the many important historical figured once jailed here—including Ireland’s first prime minister—and get a glimpse into life in 19th-century Ireland. Then enjoy a fun, interactive learning experience at EPIC, the Irish Emigration Museum.
Day 2 — Dublin
Set off into to see the sites of Dublin on an electric bicycle tour led by a knowledgeable local guide. You’ll pedal past famous landmarks and discover some of the city’s secrets as well. The afternoon is yours to pursue your family’s interests—perhaps a visit to the National Museum to see the famous “bog bodies” of Connemara or a stroll past the buskers on Grafton Street, where famous musicians like Bono and Damien Rice got their start. Tonight, enjoy an evening of traditional stories and folk music during dinner at a local pub. (B,D)
Day 3 — Blarney and Killarney
Meet your private driver this morning for the journey across Ireland to County Kerry. On the way, stop for a visit to Blarney Castle, a quintessential Irish castle that offers much more to explore than its famous kissing stone. Walk along the battlements and venture into the dungeons, then head for the gardens to discover lush fern forests and a poison garden full of deadly plants. Arrive in Killarney this afternoon and check into your hotel. (B)
Day 4 — Killarney National Park
Board a jaunting car, a traditional two-wheeled carriage drawn by a horse, for a ride through the Killarney National Park. This UNESCO Biosphere Reserve where cars are forbidden is known for its ancient oak forests and beautiful lakes. Spot the ruins of medieval abbeys and castles amid the lush landscapes and look for the park’s native strawberry trees. In the afternoon, discover the park another way: on a guided kayaking excursion to Innisfallen Island. (B)
Day 5 — County Clare
Travel north to County Clare, where your home for two nights is Dromoland Castle, a fairy tale-like 500-year-old castle perched on vast parklands. Get settled in your stateroom and then venture out to meet a falconer and learn the ancient art of falconry on the castle’s lovely grounds. This evening, step back in time at a medieval banquet accompanied by lively skits and traditional Irish music. (B,D)
Day 6 — County Clare
County Clare is home to some of Ireland’s most treasured geological wonders. Encounter them today on a private excursion that takes you from the unusual limestone-crusted landscapes of the Burren to the iconic Cliffs of Moher, a 5-mile stretch of vertical cliffs that tower up to 700 feet over the Atlantic surf. Take a walk along the cliff tops or experience this spectacular site by boat, admiring the astonishing cliffs from below. Later, visit a local farm to witness a fascinating herding demonstration by the resident sheepdogs and learn about the long tradition of sheep farming in Ireland. Return to the castle in the afternoon. (B)
Day 7— Galway
Journey north to Galway, a flourishing center of art, music, and Irish culture. Here, take part in a hands-on Gaelic sports experience, learning the rules of the traditional Irish game of hurling under the tutelage of a master. Then discover the history, charm, and culinary delights of Galway’s historic center on gourmet walking tour that features tastings of local produce and artisanal goods. (B)
Day 8 — Return Home
After breakfast this morning, take a private transfer to the airport to catch your flight home. (B)
