Experience this iconic American wonder by hiking along some of its famous rim trails (South Kaibab and Bright Angel), then descend into the canyon and go off the beaten path to explore Havasu Canyon and the dramatic blue-green waterfalls are hidden deep within. Learn about the area’s geology and Native American history from your expert guides and enjoy hikes, swimming holes, and starry nights. You’ll spend three nights in both a park lodge overlooking the canyon and a deluxe campsite in Havasu Canyon.​

Itinerary

Day 1 — Arrive in Phoenix, Arizona

Arrive in Phoenix at your leisure today. Meet your guides and fellow travelers at the hotel for an orientation and dinner. (D)

Day 2 — Phoenix / South Rim of the Grand Canyon

Gather in the hotel lobby to meet your guides for the drive to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. On the way, visit historic Desert View Watchtower and learn about Mary Jane Coulter, the noted creative mind behind many buildings and structures in the Grand Canyon. Stretch your legs during an introductory hike along the canyon rim and enjoy your first views of its majesty. Check into the hotel and dine this evening on the South Rim. Get ready for tomorrow, the first full day of adventure. Hiking 1-2 miles, 1 hour. (B,L,D)

Day 3 — Bright Angel Trail

Enjoy your first full day of exploring the world-renowned Grand Canyon. Hike the beautiful and historic Bright Angel Trail, stopping for a tasty guide-prepared lunch on the trail. Learn about the geologic layers of the Grand Canyon and how each layer has its own characteristics. In the afternoon, explore the Grand Canyon Village and explore the Yavapai Geology Museum. Hiking 6-10 miles, 3-5 hours. (B,L,D)

Day 4 — South Kaibab Trail

Today an expert from the Grand Canyon Field Institute join you for the day as you hike the famous South Kaibab Trail and gain new insights into the flora, fauna, geology, and history of the Grand Canyon. Bid goodbye to the South Rim at a delicious dinner tonight. Hiking 6 miles, 3-4 hours. (B,L,D)

Day 5 — Descend into Havasu Canyon

Rise early for a morning transfer to Hualapai Hilltop – your trailhead into Havasu Canyon. Hike down into the canyon and learn about the history of the Havasupai tribe of Native Americans, who make this special place their home. Get your first glimpse of the mighty Havasu Falls just a few steps away from your deluxe, comfortable campsite. Enjoy a delicious dinner prepared by your guides, enjoy the company of fellow hikers, then retire to your tent. Hiking 10 mi, 5-6 hours. (B,L,D)

Days 6 & 7 — Exploring Havasu Canyon’s Hidden Gems

Awaken to the smell of fresh coffee and the sound of the babbling Havasu Creek. Venture deeper into the canyon and trek across tropical blue streams and lush meadows of wild grapevines out to the astounding and beautiful Mooney and Beaver Falls. The next day, enjoy a day of hiking and swimming in the vibrant blue-green waters of this special area. Visit New Navajo Falls, Rock Falls, and of course the famous Havasu Falls. Each night, enjoy a hearty dinner and share stories in camp, then retire to your deluxe tent. Daily hiking 3-8 miles, 2-6 hours. (2B,2L,2D)

Day 8 — Ascend from Paradise

Rise early for a tasty breakfast prepared by your guides in camp. The goal is to begin your hike out of the canyon during the cool of the day. Ascend from the lush paradise of Havasu Canyon to the rim, taking your time as you hike back up to the rim.

Those who prefer not to hike out can choose to ride the supply helicopter back to Hilltop Station (additional cost). Once the group has reassembled, you will transfer back to Phoenix, stopping for a late lunch along the way. Arrive late this afternoon at the hotel where a comfortable bed and shower await. Hiking 10 miles, 4-6 hours. (B,L)

Day 9 — Depart Phoenix, Arizona

This morning is at your leisure. Board the complimentary hotel shuttle at your convenience to return to the airport in time for your homeward flight. (B)
