Ambassade Hotel
Amsterdam, Netherlands
Spread across ten of Amsterdam’s distinctive canal houses, the Ambassade Hotel combines charming canal-side architecture with a convenient location, just a short walk from the city’s main sights. The hotel’s atmosphere is both stylish and relaxed, with a host of personal touches from the owner’s library of signed books to a collection of original artworks from the avant-garde CoBrA movement. Due to the configuration of each canal house, rooms are unique in their design and décor, each offering elegant furnishings, a sitting area, and modern amenities. The hotel’s bar and brasserie offer seating along the canal.
Hotel Indigo
The Hague, Netherlands
Hotel Indigo is located in a storied former bank building across from the Palace Noordeinde. The bank was built in 1882, and later used as a bunker during World War II. During that time, the royal family had their own room, and Jews were hidden from the Nazis on the third floor. Many of the bank’s original features remain, including marble columns, old bank signs, and royal portraits, and the vault has been transformed into a bar. Communal spaces and the 63 rooms have a chic, retro feel to them, with geometric patterns, bold hues, and nods to the building’s history. The hotel safe and minibar are set within a blue vintage safe, complete with a vault-wheel you can turn to open it.
Hotel Pincoffs
Rotterdam, Netherlands
An intimate boutique hotel on Rotterdam’s trendy Left Bank, the Suite Hotel Pincoffs combines personal service with an excellent location. The hotel is housed in a former customs building, now a national monument, and named for Lodewijk Pincoffs, a controversial businessman who was an integral part of making Rotterdam the modern city it is today. The 17 rooms range from cozy nooks to high-ceilinged mezzanine suites, each elegantly decorated to highlight the building’s original architectural features. The hotel’s bar and restaurant serve meals and drinks on the outdoor terrace or in an inviting lounge with a wood-burning fire. The hotel is plastic bottle-free and serves mostly organic produce, and has been recognized with a Golden Green Key for its sustainability initiatives.
