Suggested Itinerary
Day 1 — San José, Costa Rica
Welcome to Costa Rica! Arrive in San José and meet your private driver for the transfer to your hotel. Depending on when you arrive, you may have time to head out to explore San José this afternoon.
Day 2 — Arenal
Head for the tropical forests of Arenal with your private driver this morning. Here, a dormant volcano blanketed in jungle presides over and landscape of lakes, lava fields, rapid-filled rivers, and local farms. There are many ways to explore the region, and you’ll kick off the adventure among the treetops, getting an up-close view of the unique ecosystems of the rainforest canopy by sky tram and zip-line. Keep an eye out for monkeys, sloths, and brightly colored birds and frogs. You’ll also have the chance to take a guided rainforest trek to learn about the fascinating flora and fauna of Arenal.
Day 3 — Arenal
Take to the trails on a guided mountain bike tour this morning, pedaling through the jungle and the surrounding farms on a route that’s suitable for the whole family. This afternoon is yours to discover Arenal as you wish—whether you wish to get a closer look at wildlife at one of the sanctuaries and zoos in the area, soak in one of Arenal’s famous hot springs or simply relax by the pool at your hotel.
Day 4 — Monteverde Cloud Forest
Trace the shores of Arenal Lake, taking in stunning views as you travel with your private driver and guide to Monteverde Cloud Forest. While the road can be bumpy at times, it affords incredible vistas of mountains covered in cloud forest. Upon arrival at your hotel, enjoy the rest of the afternoon to relax or go for a walk on one of the gentle trails on the hotel grounds.
Day 5 — Monteverde Cloud Forest
Expect an early morning wake-up call this morning! You’ll meet up with a private naturalist guide for a cloud forest walk when birds and other animals are actively preparing for their day. As you follow trails and walk across rope bridges strung through the canopy, get a firsthand perspective on the biodiversity of the cloud forest and learn about the unique and symbiotic species that live here, including orchids and bromeliads, resplendent quetzals and hummingbirds.
Day 6 — Tamarindo Beach
Descend from the misty mountains with your private driver and travel to Tamarindo Beach on the Pacific coast. Settle into your hotel and start your exploration with a guided horseback ride that will bring your family into the surrounding countryside and along the pristine coast, with opportunities to spot wildlife or go for a swim along the way.
Day 7 — Tamarindo Bay
Join a sunrise surfing class this morning, then enjoy the remainder of your day to do as many—or as few—activities as you like. Go deep-sea fishing, ride quad bikes, go zip lining through the wilderness, or set off on a variety of hikes. Alternatively, relax with a book at your hotel’s pool or on the forest-fringed beach just beyond.
Day 8 — Tamarindo Bay
Take to the sea on a family catamaran cruise this morning. Stop to snorkel in calm, clear waters where marine life teems among underwater volcanic rocks. Watch for angelfish, sea turtles, octopi, and perhaps even a manta ray! Spend your final afternoon relaxing or partaking in another fun family activity.
Day 9 — Return Home
Meet your driver for the private transfer to San José airport and catch your flight home.
Included meals are denoted as follows: Breakfast (B), Lunch (L), Reception (R), Dinner (D)
