Overview

The Riviera at its most glamorous - starlets posing on sparkling beaches for eager paparazzi, veteran directors enjoying an espresso in a seaside cafe, the pageantry of elegant personalities filing down the red carpet amid flashing cameras, and - best of all - the artistic wealth found in films from around the world. The Cannes Film Festival is an exclusive annual event that celebrates the best names in film today. Through a special accreditation granted by the Festival itself, the Smithsonian offers an in-depth program to explore the world of film in Cannes. Smithsonian travelers will attend film screenings and presentations by film experts, and meet with up-and-coming directors and actors. Plus, your hotel is located in the center of Cannes, within easy walking distance to the Palais des Festivals, the Croisette, the old port, and the main festival locations around the city.

Highlights Include

  • Special Festival Pass: Through your festival pass, join industry professionals to watch films from the “Official Competition.” You’ll also view films by young directors in the Un Certain Regard competition, watch directors introduce their “Short Films,” and enjoy hearing from an actor, director, or producer about a newly restored Cannes Classic.
  • Restricted Access Areas: Visit the Film Market where the business of film is conducted and tour the International Village along the waterfront, possible only through your special pass.
  • Private Reception: Experience the festivity of a private reception at the American Pavilion!
  • Morning Briefings: Attend briefings with your Smithsonian Journeys Expert to discuss the previous day’s films and hear suggestions for other screenings.
