Timothy Weston

Timothy Weston is associate professor of history at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he teaches a variety of Chinese history courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. He earned his Ph.D. in modern Chinese history at the University of California, Berkeley, and has since done research on Chinese intellectuals, political culture, workers, unemployment, and public life in late-imperial and twentieth-century China. He travels to China frequently, speaks to public audiences on a regular basis, and has co-edited three collections of essays on contemporary China, the latest being, China In and Beyond the Headlines. In addition, he published The Power of Position: Beijing University, Intellectuals and Chinese Political Culture, 1898-1929. His next book, near completion, focuses on China’s absorption into the Western media and communications system in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
