Mary Ann Calo

Mary Ann Calo is Batza Professor or Art and Art History, Emerita, at Colgate University, were she taught courses on modern and contemporary art history, the arts and public policy, and American art. Calo also served as Chair of the Art and Art History Department, Associate Dean of the Faculty, Director of the Institute for the Creative and Performing Arts, and Director of the Division of Arts and Humanities. Calo spent many years living and working in Italy, initially as a student and then later as a professor. She has led undergraduate study groups in Florence, Venice, London, Paris and Western Australia, and has served as visiting professor of modern art at Syracuse University in Florence. Her programs in Paris and London were focused specifically on modern art in these cities’ museums. Calo is the author of three books and numerous articles, some of which grew out of research undertaken during her extended stays in Italy. Her research specialties include the history of modern art criticism.
