Smithsonian Journeys Experts
Dwight Bowers is a Performing Arts Curator in the Division of Music, Sports, and Entertainment at the National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution. He served as co-curator of the National Portrait Gallery exhibition Red, Hot and Blue: A Salute to American Musicals, which toured nationally. Additional exhibitions include Ella Fitzgerald: First Lady of Song and Muppets and Mechanisms. He has broad expertise in the history of American performing arts and has acted as producer-annotator for over 50 archival recording releases. A three-time Grammy Award nominee, he is currently involved in the development of a new Smithsonian exhibition, America Plays, a history of American Entertainment and Sports, to be presented at the National Museum of American History in 2008.
