  • Author, filmmaker, photographer, and adventurer Karin Muller set out on a quest that took her on a four-thousand-mile trek from Quito to Santiago along the Royal Inca highway - resulting in an acclaimed international television series and a book that has been translated into 8 languages. She has traveled to Peru over 20 times to lead tours and continue filming and photography. Karin will lead the March departure. Joan Gero is Professor Emerita of Anthropology from American University and a Research Fellow in the Department of Anthropology in the Museum of Natural History at the Smithsonian. She has conducted archaeological excavations in the Andes (Peru and Argentina) since 1985 with grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, National Science Foundation, Fulbright, the Wenner-Gren Foundation and the Heintz Foundation. Joan will lead the April departure. Sabine Hyland received her B.A. in Anthropology from Cornell University and her M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Anthropology from Yale University, and is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at St. Norbert College. A veteran scholar of the Andes, Hyland has won fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Science Foundation, and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Sabine will lead the September departure. An expert in Latin American history and archaeology, Jeff Cole has led more than 40 Smithsonian tours to Latin America. He has taught at many universities, lectures at the Smithsonian, and works as a consultant. Jeff will lead the October departure.
