Universally regarded as an ideal platform to premiere films, The Toronto International Film Festival has proven to be one of the most successful cinematic events in the world. The centerpiece of the festival is the dramatic TIFF Bell Lightbox, featuring five state-of-the-art screening theaters, stunning public spaces, and an extensive film library. Join film historian Marc Glassman as he guides you through a remarkable range of cinematography, from independent films to Hollywood features. 2013 film screenings included North American Premieres of Twelve Years a Slave and Gravity, the latter starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney.
September 3 — Arrive in Toronto
Arrive individually and check-in after 3:00 p.m. at the InterContinental Toronto Centre. Meet Smithsonian Journeys Expert Marc Glassman for a welcome reception. Opening remarks and a group dinner follow in the hotel. Your industry passes will be handed out this evening along with a full schedule of screenings. (R,D)
September 4 — Individual Film Screenings
This morning enjoy a full breakfast buffet and remarks by your Smithsonian Journeys Expert in preparation for the day’s films. Spend the remainder of your morning at leisure and attend film screenings on your own this afternoon and evening. (B)
September 5 — Individual Screenings and Gala Screening
After breakfast and a presentation by Marc Glassman and a guest lecturer, you will be fully prepared for today's films. Attend screenings on your own for the remainder of morning and into the afternoon. This evening, the group will attend a Gala screening. (B)
September 6 — Individual Film Screenings
Enjoy a full breakfast buffet and prepare for the day's screenings by attending presentations given by your Smithsonain Journeys Expert and a guest lecturer. The rest of the day is at leisure to attend the Festival's offerings on your own. (B)
September 7 — Film Screenings and Farewell Reception
Prepare for the day with a full breakfast buffet and remarks by Marc Glassman and a guest lecturer. After an independent afternoon of film screenings, join fellow travelers and your Smithsonian Journeys Expert for a festive farewell dinner and recap on the films seen. (B,D)
September 8 — Depart Toronto
Depart from the hotel individually.
