Expectations: Three-week immersion stay in Marbella, Spain. This stay features accommodations in a centrally located hotel / apartment, within walking distance to shops, restaurants, and program activities. Program includes six half-day or full-day included excursions outside the city as well as walking tours in Marbella. In addition, there will be an optional two-night Weekend Escape offering to Carmona/Seville. On most of these excursions you will encounter cobblestone streets, hills, stairs without handrails, some buildings without elevators, archaeological sites with uneven steps and some ungroomed paths and hills. Because many of our excursions visit historic sites, villages and towns there will be longer walks and steps to get to these sites and city centers where motorcoaches are prohibited.
For those who choose the Active Discovery Enrichment Track (optional) this track will include hiking tours and activities in and beyond the city of Marbella. Hikes will be from 1 to 4 miles and some areas will feature rough and ungroomed trails, higher altitudes, steep inclines, and uneven terrain. We highly recommend guests prepare for the track prior to the trip by exercising and conditioning themselves for these hikes. We also recommend guests with health concerns contact their physician prior to signing up for this track to be sure this Active Discovery option is the right fit for them.
Our three-week immersion program is geared for the independent traveler who will also enjoy pursuing their own interests, making meal plans independently (either solo or with other travelers) and finding their way to activities independently. (Your Smithsonian Journeys Resident Director is always available to assist with plans.)
Appropriate for: Travelers who are physically fit and comfortable with longer days of touring (both walking tours and coach time).
