Arthur Kaplan is one of Smithsonian Journeys most popular and engaging lecturers having led travelers on in-depth history programs in France and to world-class opera at the Metropolitan Opera, the Santa Fe Opera and more. Arthur looks forward to sharing with you some of the rich history of the Provence region, an area he has visited many times. A French Linguistic major at Cornell University and former Assistant Professor of French at Mills College in Oakland, California, he’ll discuss Occitania and the Occitan language, which is still spoke in the South of France, and the Roman and Romanesque monuments at Arles, a fascinating UNESCO World Heritage Site.
