Immerse yourself in the magical world of opera at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City! Our fabulous Spring opera program features Orchestra Prime seating and in-depth lectures by our opera expert and so much more!
Plácido Domingo conducts the Met’s spectacular production of Aida. Attend evocative new productions of Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci, with tenor Marcelo Alvarez portraying tenor leads in both operas. Marvel at Verdi’s masterful scores of Don Carlo and Un Ballo I Maschera with tenor Piotr Beczala as King Gustavo for the first time at the Met.
Our program features a tour of Lincoln Center and a relaxed schedule so that you can pursue personal interests, and a farewell dinner at the Grand Tier restaurant, located inside the opera house. This program is limited to 30 participants.
April 20 — Aida
Individual arrivals in New York City at the Empire Hotel, located across the street from Lincoln Center. Gather in the late afternoon with Arthur Kaplan and depart the hotel lobby for the short walk to your welcome dinner. Mr. Kaplan provides opening remarks at the restaurant, then dinner is served. Depart for the short walk to the Metropolitan Opera House to attend the grandest of the grand operas Aida, Verdi’s mythic love triangle featuring soprano Oksana Dyka and Pacido Domingo conducting. April 21— Cavalleria Rusticana / Pagliacci
Enjoy a morning lecture on Pietro Mascagni / Ruggero Leoncavallo’s Cavalleria Rusticana / Pagliacci. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore New York City independently. This evening attend Cavalleria Rusticana / Pagliacci, one of opera’s most enduring tragic double bills, set in two different time periods but in the same Sicilian setting. Marcelo Álvarez plays the dual tenor roles of Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana and Canio in Pagliacci.
April 22 — Don Carlo
Gather for a morning lecture on Giuseppe Verdi’s Don Carlo. In the afternoon take a tour of Lincoln Center. This evening return to the Met to attend Don Carlo with tenor Yonghoon Lee in title role and bass Ferruccio Furlanetto, reprising his definitive portrayal of King Philip.
April 23— Un Ballo I Maschera
Enjoy a morning lecture on Giuseppe Verdi’s Un Ballo I Maschera. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore New York City independently. In the evening, gather for a festive farewell dinner at the Grand Tier, located in the lobby of the Metropolitan Opera House, overlooking the grand plaza. Following dinner, attend Un Ballo I Maschera featuring tenor Piotr Beczala who sings King Gustavo in his very first collaboration with Music Director James Levine. (D)
