Incomparable soprano Nina Stemme sings the heroic lead in Richard Strauss’ Elektra and legendary mezzo-soprano Waltraud Meier portrays her fearsome mother Klytemnestra. Internationally renowned soprano Kristine Opolais assumes the iconic role of Co-Co-San in Giacomo Puccini’s epic Madama Butterfly.

Opening remarks by Arthur Kaplan on Gaetano Donizetti’s Roberto Devereux. Soprano Sondra Radvanovsky plays Queen Elizabeth, forced to sign the death warrant of the nobleman she loves, Roberto Devereux, in this climactic opera of Donizetti’s Tudor trilogy. This evening attend your first performance, Roberto Devereux. (R,D)

Day 2 — Madama Butterfly

Remarks by Arthur Kaplan on Giacomo Puccini’s Madama Butterfly.  This afternoon enjoy a back stage tour of The Metropolitan Opera House. Attend Madama Butterfly this eveningAnthony Minghella’s breathtaking production has thrilled audiences ever since its original premiere, with soprano Kristine Opolais in the title role.

Day 3 — Simon Boccanegra

Gather for a discussion on Giuseppe Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra. Remainder of the morning and afternoon at leisure. This evening attend Simon Boccanegra. The legendary pair of James Levine and Plácido Domingo have defined Verdi’s art for more than four decades. They demonstrate their mastery with this remarkable character study of the wise and weary Doge. The spectacular cast includes tenor Joseph Calleja and another legend, bass Ferruccio Furlanetto, as Boccanegra’s rival, Fiesco.

Day 4 — Elecktra

Enjoy your morning in New York at leisure. Gather for a discussion on Richard Strauss’ Elecktra. This evening depart for the Metropolitan Opera House for your festive farewell dinner at the Grand Tier restaurant, set within one of the most spectacular cultural destinations in the world. Dine in an atmosphere highlighted by spectacular chandeliers and original masterpieces by Marc Chagall. This evening attend your final opera, Elektra. Elektra’s troubled siblings, Soprano Adrianne Pieczonka and bass Eric Owens, join Nina Stemme on stage, where she takes on the title role. (D)
