Professor Alex Saragoza is a professor of history in the Department of Ethnic Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. Among his current research projects is an examination of old world legacies—equestrian competition and wine-making, for example—in the cultural formations and practices of the Americas. This area of research has led to courses on the history of Catalonia, which at one time included Roussillon and Languedoc in southwest France. Professor Saragoza is also former chair of the Center for Latin American Studies and director of International Education Programs.
