With its balmy island breezes and centuries-old tradition of gardening, the Caribbean is a delightful winter interlude. Board the elegant Sea Cloud to discover a splendid variety of island gardens during a seven-night voyage. Sip rum punch in St. George’s, Grenada, the “Spice Island,” and call at tiny Bequia in the Grenadines for some seaside time or a hike to a turtle hatchery. Visit two important gardens in Kingstown, St. Vincent, and on St. Lucia, enjoy a swim at the white-sand Anse des Pitons beach at the foot of the island’s dramatic twin peaks, a World Heritage site. Visit the colonial city of Fort de France, Martinique, where we will be greeted by a host of hummingbirds at the private botanic park, Les Jardins de Balata. Throughout your journey, enjoy the small-ship experience of Sea Cloud, a four-masted barque steeped in the elegance of yesteryear, and relax during leisurely hours under sail. An optional extension to Barbados is also offered.
January 14 — Miami, Barbados
Depart on a morning flight from Miami. Upon arrival in Barbados this afternoon, transfer to the elegant sailing yacht Sea Cloud for our seven-night Caribbean cruise. (D)
January 15 - St. George's, Granada
During an idyllic morning at sea, relax and enjoy the gentle breezes. In the afternoon arrive in St. George’s, the capital city of Grenada, with its medley of brightly colored houses. This is the “Spice Island,” where you can shop for locally produced nutmeg, cloves, cocoa, cinnamon, ginger, and vanilla. Visit privately owned Sunnyside Gardens, then continue on to Tower Plantation House, a working fruit and spice plantation established in the wooded hills above the capital. Tonight, gather on deck for dancing under the stars to the music of one of the Caribbean’s best steel bands. (B,L,D)
January 16 — Port Elizabeth, Bequia
Step ashore this morning on the low-lying island of Bequia. The largest of the Grenadines, Bequia has powdery white beaches and clear blue waters that are a snorkeler’s paradise. Enjoy the beach and water sports in this beautiful setting where the distant hills are dotted with oleander, bougainvillea and hibiscus. Hikers may take a brisk walk to a turtle hatchery located outside of town. Set sail for Barbados in the afternoon. This evening celebrate a memorable voyage at a farewell dinner hosted by the captain. (B,L,D)
January 17 — Kingstown, St. Vincent
Arrive in Kingstown, St Vincent for an afternoon visit to the St Vincent and the Grenadines Botanic Gardens, considered one of the most important botanical gardens in the Caribbean. Continue to stunning Montreal Gardens, located in the shadow of Grand Bonhomme Mountain. Evening onboard festivities include a tasting of fine rums from island distilleries. (B,L,D)
January 18 — Soufriere, St. Lucia
This morning Sea Cloud anchors in the Bay of Soufriere on the southwestern coast of St. Lucia. A visit to Diamond Botanic Garden is followed by a lunch of Caribbean specialties at the renowned Dasheene Restaurant, which boasts spectacular views of the dramatic Pitons, St. Lucia’s towering twin peaks. In the early afternoon, Sea Cloud sets sail for Martinique. (B,L,D)
January 19 - Fort de France, Martinique
Visit the colonial city of Fort de France. At the private botanic park, Les Jardins de Balata, we will be greeted by a host of hummingbirds, including the purple-throated and green-throated caribs. The creation of its owner, artist and landscape architect Jean-Philippe Thoze, Balata is the product of twenty years of collecting and includes a spectacular variety of new and mature plants. (B,L,D)
January 20 - At Sea
Enjoy lectures and discussion as you cruise today. Observe as the ship’s crew practices the art of setting the sails by hand, or perhaps settle into a comfortable deck chair with a favorite book. This evening celebrate a memorable voyage at a farewell dinner hosted by the captain. (B,L,D)
January 21 — Barbados, Miami
Disembark in Barbados this morning and transfer to the airport for the return flight home. (B)
