With its balmy island breezes and centuries-old gardening and maritime traditions, the Caribbean is an ideal winter interlude. From aboard the elegant Sea Cloud discover a variety of splendid private island gardens, whose owners will greet you personally. You’ll also enjoy delightful hours under sail aboard this legendary tall ship, swim at exquisite hidden beaches, and snorkel in clear blue waters.

  • Antigua: Begin and end your cruise on this charming Leeward Island and visit two private gardens.
  • Tortola and Virgin Gorda: Discover special gardens on Tortola and swim in the sheltered sea pools at “The Baths,” a national park on Virgin Gorda.
  • St. Eustatius: Take an architectural walking tour of this lesser-known Dutch island.
  • Nevis: Explore a lush botanical garden as well as the childhood home of Alexander Hamilton.
  • Iles des Saintes: Visit Fort Napoleon, a 19th-century building that is now a museum showcasing the small island’s rich history.

Itinerary

Day 1 — Depart the U.S. for Antigua

Depart on a flight from Miami. Upon arrival in Antigua, transfer to the Sea Cloud. (D)

Day 2 — St. Barthelemy

Arrive in small but cosmopolitan St. Barthelemy. Enjoy the chic French savoir faire as you stroll past cafes and boutiques. Swimmers will have an opportunity to enjoy one of many beautiful white-sand beaches. Return to the ship in the late afternoon. This evening, the captain will host a welcome reception and dinner. Day 3 — Tortola, British Virgin Islands

Today step ashore on Tortola, the largest of the British Virgin Islands. Visit the J.R. O’Neal Botanic Garden, a four-acre garden that includes a lush array of indigenous and exotic tropical plants. Continue to the Governor's House for a walk through the Governor's Garden, laden with palm trees and various flowering plants, as well as a spectacular view overlooking Road Harbour. Return to the ship in time for lunch. (B,L,D)

Day 4 — Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands

Tender ashore this morning to explore the “Baths,” gigantic boulders piled at random along the sandy beach, which create small pools and interesting cave-like structures. In the afternoon sail to the North Sound of Virgin Gorda. You may wish to go ashore to visit the famous Bitter End Yacht Club prior to a barbeque dinner on deck. (B,L,D)

Day 5 — St. Eustatius, Netherlands Antilles

Arrive at the small Dutch island of St. Eustatius, once known as one of the busiest seaports in the world. Enjoy a morning architectural walking tour through the town followed by time at leisure. You may to join an optional excursion or explore this charming island on your own. Sea Cloud sails in the early afternoon. On board festivities this evening feature a tasting of fine rums from island distilleries. (B,L,D)

Day 6 — Nevis

Arrive this morning at the island of Nevis, the birthplace and childhood home of Alexander Hamilton. Visit the Alexander Hamilton house before exploring Nevis’ spectacular botanic garden. The five-acre garden contains a variety of tropical plants, orchid terraces, and a rainforest conservancy. Return to the ship for an afternoon at sea. (B,L,D)

Day 7 — Iles des Saintes and Guadeloupe

The Iles des Saintes is an archipelago of eight tiny volcanic islands and site of the Battle of the Saintes between the Royal Navy and the French Fleet in 1782. You may wish to tour the charming colonial-style capital, Terre-de-Haut, or visit the 17th-century Fort Napoleon with its commanding views and exotic gardens. Or perhaps enjoy a swim at one of the white-sand beaches before returning to the Sea Cloud. Join the captain on Lido Deck this evening for cocktails, followed by a farewell dinner. (B,L,D)

Day 8 — Depart Antigua for the U.S.

Disembark this morning in Antigua. Visit two private gardens and enjoy a light lunch before transferring to the airport for the afternoon flight to Miami. (B,L)
