Curator of African Cultures and Arts, National Musuem of Natural History
Mary Jo Arnoldi is Curator of African Ethnology and Arts the Department of Anthropology at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History. Mary Jo was in the Peace Corps in Dakar and has extensive experience in West Africa. She has been conducting research in Mali since 1978 and has published widely on its arts and performance, cultural heritage, social life, and history. She was the lead curator for the museum’s permanent “African Voices” exhibition and was co-curator for the Mali program, “From Timbuktu to Washington,” at the 2003 Smithsonian Folklife Festival.
