Julia Brennan

Julia Brennan was born and raised in Asia. Her interest in cultural preservation stems from her childhood travelling to weaving and hill-tribe villages, archeological sites, and learning traditional customs and languages. She received her Bachelors in Asian Studies and Art History from Barnard College, NYC, and her Masters in art crime from ARCA, the Association for Research in Crimes Against Art. Julia has worked in the field of textile conservation and preservation for over 26 years. From 2000 to 2008, she led four textile training workshops in The Kingdom of Bhutan, funded by the Getty Foundation. Teaching programs were based both at the Textile Museum in Thimphu, and rural monasteries, and she helped establish and train the first generation of Bhutanese collection care specialists and conservators. She frequently lectures to historical societies and collector groups on the care and display of textiles and is passionately committed to conservation outreach, education of emerging conservators, and the protection of cultural property.
