James Bloom is assistant professor of history of art at Vanderbilt University and teaches courses on the visual culture of northern Europe from 1400 to 1700, with a particular emphasis on economic histories of the arts. He attended Dartmouth College as an undergraduate, and received his Ph.D. from Duke University. James has lived in Spain and Belgium, where he studied as a Fulbright Scholar while residing in the medieval town of Ghent. He has been teaching at Vanderbilt since 2005, and was previously a professor of art history at Florida State University.
