Evelyn, thanks for sharing your memories with us. It's fantastic that you were able to stay in a cave. Many of the travelers on that tour shared with me their memories of coming to Petra before the area was developed. It's still amazing today and I'll definitely have those memories for life as well.

While living in Beruit in 1964 I took my daughter for her 11th birthday to Petra. We rode horses in to the Treasury and down the Roman road to the only hotel there. We chose to sleep in one of the caves,we then had a guide to take us to the top of the mountain and walked all the way to thr top sometime on slabs of rock and sometime on steps built by the romans. When we reached the top the man with donkey had beat us there with cold coke cola. . The room had one light buld and it went off at9pm. Only cold water to wash with and the loo was a walk down the way. what a glorious venture it was. It has really changed in almost fifty years, but the menory is still very. vivid
